Busy Travel Expo stands at last year's fvw Kongress.

The annual fvw Kongress will have a new look and a new price model this year as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The two-day event for the German travel industry, which first took place 20 years ago, will again be held at the Xpost location in Cologne. This year’s dates are September 17 – 18.

The fvw Kongress remains clearly focused on the future. Major themes are how technology is driving change and how companies are transforming themselves, from digitalisation through to sustainability.

New this year is the reorganisation into one single event with three presentation stages incorporated into the exhibition area. The previous split between the conference (with a separate ticket) and the exhibition has been ended.

This means there is now just one single entrance ticket providing access to the entire event on both days, including all the presentations and the evening party. The ticket costs 349 euros as a special early booking price valid until the end of June. (There are discounted prices for travel agents and start-ups.)

The three stages will have different themes. On the Center Stage speakers will discuss strategic issues affecting the whole travel and mobility industry and will look well beyond the German market. These topics will include:

  • Silicon Valley or Shanghai – where are innovations happening?
  • AI, Blockchain, Augmented Reality – which technology really counts?
  • Air taxis, Sharing Services and Hyperloop – what does the future of mobility look like?
  • “Generation Greta” – how tourism needs to change
  • Cool, relaxed, Instagrammable – travel products for Millennials
  • Omnichannel sales: how it really works in practice
  • OTAs: the winner takes it all?

The Technology Lab stage will feature technological developments from tour operating through to flight sales. Experts will demonstrate practical examples of solutions and tools that can make companies and their staff fit for the future.

Challenges in sales and marketing will be in focus on the Sales Lab stage. Through case studies and examples participants will be offered practical information for their everyday work, as was previously the case with the travel agency forum.

Overall, the fvw Kongress will have a clearer structure and more focused topics in future. One thing that remains unchanged is the legendary evening Kongress Party at the Wartesaal am Dom, next to Cologne Cathedral.
