Major German travel agency cooperation RTK is expanding abroad with the takeover of 250 travel agencies in Belgium.

RTK International, its international subsidiary, has acquired 100% of Avitour, the biggest travel agency chain in Belgium with 250 outlets. It previously held a 50% stake in the Belgian company.

Avitour will maintain its head office in Waterloo and continue to be managed by the former owner Alain Kisel.

The deal also gives RTK full ownership of the RTK Travel Center franchise chain, in which it previously held 50% along with joint venture partner Avitour.

Thomas Bösl, head of the RTK group, said: "The full takeover of Avitour is a further milestrone on our strategic path to strengthen our market position in the Benelux countries."

RTK International has steadily expanded its sales network in the Benelux countries over the last decade.
