The Aida Nova is the newest member of the German cruise company’s fleet and features surprising new offers, especially for sports and activities.
Is it a cruise ship or the rock music pub next door? Aida has hit the bullseye with the Rockbox Bar on the Nova, its newest ship. Not only sales manager Uwe Mohr describes the bar on Deck 7 as his "favourite place on board". Guests also rock the evening away to the sounds of the live band in the bar.
The 105th ship of the Carnival fleet, with 20 decks and 2,626 cabins, is the largest cruise ship in the Aida fleet to date. When fully occupied, it can accommodate more than 6,000 people. After a slight delay completing construction last autumn, the Nova has now been sailing the Atlantic since December. The one-week Canary Islands route, from/to Gran Canaria and including a call in Madeira, runs until April. From mid-April, the ship will head for the Mediterranean, with destinations such as Majorca, Barcelona, Rome, Florence and Marseille. The Nova is also the first ship in the fleet to run on LNG (liquefied natural gas).
The new flagship of the Rostock-based company not only differs in size from the rest of the fleet. "The offer for families, for example, is enormous," says travel agent Johanna Lange from Ferienwelt in the town of Uelzen. She was part of a group of travel professionals who were allowed to have an exclusive look at the ship for a few days. The 27-year-old was particularly enthusiastic about two new offers: the Mystery Room, where exciting puzzles have to be solved in a team, and the Time Machine theme restaurant. This is one of six à la carte restaurants where guests have to pay separately for food and drinks. In addition, there are five specialty restaurants, where only the drinks have to be paid extra, and five buffet restaurants, where all food and drinks are already included.
Action and relaxation – those are two areas that the Nova has covered perfectly. On the one hand, there is the 3,500 sqm wellness area with five saunas and three Jacuzzis on the sun deck. On the other, the large indoor fitness studio as well as a new outdoor sports area on Deck 8 for active passengers (aged 13 and over). There are also two new water slides and the Game Center has been redesigned.
The cabin concept has also been broadened. “There are more single cabins as well as for five people,” explains travel agent Romina Vidoni, from Urlaubsexperte.de. What’s more, the colours in the cabins are more harmonious and more attention has been paid to small details such as the position of the sockets.
